Looking For Ohio Blocks
I have heard that there are over 400 varieties of Ohio made bricks, blocks and pavers. If that is so, I have a long, long way to go.
If you find one of hiding in a garage, basement or forgotten field take a look at my list page and if you don’t see your brick / block listed, let’s work together to find out more about it.
All I need is a photo and I can take it from there. Or you can post as a comment here with a photo if you can attach one. Let’s see if we can create an comprehensive photo record of Ohio Blocks!

Bricks are only worth money in large quantities – generally a pallet or more. Some people sell them on e-bay and other sites.
I would be interested in trading with you for one. Or if your found them in Columbus – what part of town you found them in.

My husband just tore down a second chimney to redo the back roof of our house and it was made entirely of stamped wooster ohio bricks. they do not say paver they say wooster ohio. i have not been able to find anything on the company or when made but our house was probably built in 1870

I live in louisville ky. In the st matthews/lyndon area. The house im renting has been here as far back as the 60s i think. Maybe longer. Im redoing the outside rock sidewalk and uncovered a brick. I knew some bricks were antique so i googled it and found you. Its a union paver mcmanigal. Are they worth anything? Hope to hear back of not only value but any possible history.

I found 6 Wooster Pavers in my garden this morning. I dug them up (they were buried 2′ under the sod). I cleaned them up and appear to be in good condition. Not sure why they were buried there along with some other regular bricks.

Our house in Clintonville, built late-1870s, has four (had, 2 have been demolished) 16′ chimneys (above the roof line) made of C&S brick. I’m pretty sure the builder/original owner, Truman Coe, was the “C” in the brick name. I remember reading (I think in the Columbus Centennial History) that he owned four lumber mills and a brick works. The brick works was at Washington and Broad Streets? I used a number of the bricks in the chimney that we had torn down in a walkway in our side yard.

I’m unsure if your blog is still active but we found a few of the Union Paver Sciotoville blocks while redoing an old stair case outside.
It was under layers of concrete and if you want one you are more then welcome to it.
Just curious about how old they might me.

I have a brick with BUC”K”EYE stamped on the face. The K is larger then all the other letters (hence the quotes) There is nothing else stamped, printed, or raised on the brick. The only information I could find of this brick was this picture on Flickr

I bought an antique wood and brass roller with pins on each side that would have been used to stamp

There are 7 brass plates on the wooden roller with the company logo that would have stamped the sides of the bricks.
Does anyone know how old it might be and how rare it is?

Hi Dan – A brick expert I know had this to share: “Belden is in production now and primarily in the canton area they use a system that the clay is extruded in a particular shape I think that the belden imprint is added before the bricks are wire cut to size.I would think that the are stacked as
opposed to being lined up side by side. As far as the age the best way would be to ask the Belden Mfg. as that would
be the best records. Also it would be a cool tour of the plant if you ask.”

i started by accident. the grandstands from an old ballpark were demolished. not only did i get some artifacts from there but the guy i got the items from gave me 2 bricks. they are GRAVES-B’HAM and SOUTHERN CLAY. i told my wife i wasn’t going to start anything, but am now up to 10! i live in florida now so i am looking at getting all bricks that were and still are in use here. i was born and raised in chicago so i am looking for some from that area as well.
i remember seeing METROPOLITAN and PURINGTON blocks in the streets. anyway. i am wanting METROPOLITAN, both styles and purington if anyone has that one, being that it wasn’t made in ohio. i got my 9 year old son into them as well so now he looks as well. i teach him about the history behind them.

I have a question, sort of off topic fm. Rather than collecting, I live outside of Youngstown and have a brick house built in the 1927 using Bessemer bricks. I’m going to need an addition added on to this house (kitchen needs to be bigger). What are the odds I could use reclaimed bricks of the same era to accomplish this? Has anyone heard of doing this before or seen the old bricks used for anything other than pavers?

There are some buildings in Athens that were made out of similar brick as well as most of the original village of Haydenville. It can be done.

An ancestor built the a brick inn in Adams County about 1801 on a road called Zane’s trace. The road was just being improved from single-horse width to be able to handle wagon and stage travel between Maysville, KY and Wheeling , WV and the area was in its very early years of settlement. Do you possibly know where he would have found bricks and mortar back then?

The area is rich in raw materials for brick so they may have made them themselves. You can get interesting information about the area and the era in the book the Frontiersman.

Coincidently, I wanted to do additional Boone and Kenton research because another ancestor from Limestone/Maysville/Washington, KY was a friend of and fought with Simon Kenton. That book should be interesting. Now I’ll study the manufacture of bricks and mortar.

Think I came to the right spot have no idea what I came across but I was downtown Cincinnati on the side of overgrown spot on river picked it up and that sucker had some weight. It was imprinted with buckeye block and underneath said roseville o. Think I really found something special because there is tons of information about this company but not many pictures of them out there. If anyone would like to better inform me that would be great. We have 5-6 skids of Wooster Pavers. Some have the indented print but most are the raised print. We also have a skid of Belden Pavers but not all have the gold plate on the side. Does anyone know if these are valuable? Or the time frame of when the pavers were made. Thanks!

Hi Nicole, the value on individual blocks/bricks is minimal. But if you have pallets of the same kind in good shape some companies are interested in using them for special projects and etc. One place to check or to get ideas on others that might be interested is Columbus Architectural Salvage. The time frame for the pavers you have would be roughly 1890 to 1910.

Hi All,
I have two large 75+ stacks of antique bricks that I would like to sell at a reasonable price to anyone interested. One stack is of the dark-red to purple color bricks that I was told were used in the Columbus to Cleveland turnpike (have no idea if that is true). They are the kind seen in front of the Worthington Inn. In addition, I have a number of ‘yellow’ bricks with all kinds of different names and stamps. While out river wading here in central Ohio I found a brick among a good number of pieces and it’s embossed FULTONHAM_O. I have seen the Fultonham steel pavers, but details on this specific embossing brick turn up scant. Any ideas on the age and if these were3 a mass produced brick?

Thanks for the info. I posted it and after some discussion, it is said to be kind of a rare brick to find. It also seems to be a rail brick as it’s been cut after manufacture for a rail crossing. We have 4 rail crossings in this town dating from the 1890s.

Hello and greetings from Central New York State! I have a 1929 house with red bricks. Recently, a 200+ year old Maple tree came down in a storm and took out the second story corner of the house. Now I am looking at repairs and want to match the brick. The ones that came off are destroyed, but we managed to find a maker’s name: AVA Bricks, Ava Ohio. I am hoping to find out if there is a cache of Ava OHIO red bricks (variations of dark to mid-dark red) with striations along one edge that I can get to repair that part of the exterior. Any information would be great!!

I just found a very good condition Buckeye Brick Co. brick from Roseville Ohio. It was one of many from a church built in 1875 in Grand Rapids Michigan. A non profit is rehabilitating the church right now to save its history. I do have the phone number of the lady who bought the old church. She seems to knows alot about the history of it. I will post a pick or send me you phone number and I will send pics to your phone of the church and the brick.

Do you know anything about about “hocking block” bricks? Are they collectible or worth anything? I haven’t counted them but I guess I have over 1,000 of these. The person I purchased my house from was an executive at Proctor and gamble. My neighbor said he shipped these from their Cincinnati HQ to his house when they redid the HQ walkway at PG.

Yesterday found near Ashtabula Lake Erie beach a BULA ASHTABULA OHIO BLOCK. Mr Great Grandmother was born in Ashtabula in 1854 so this brick/paver is a keeper.
